FITEQ General Assembly elects three new Executive Board members
FITEQ hosted its annual General Assembly today (12 December), with the global TEQBALL family able to reflect on another year of significant progress for the sport and plan for an exciting year ahead.
The General Assembly followed the conclusion of a highly entertaining fourth edition of the TEQBALL World Championships in Gliwice, Poland (8-11 December). 80 National Federations joined the meeting virtually, where three new members were elected onto the FITEQ Executive Board.
Filomena Fortes, who is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member and President of the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee, was unanimously elected after being proposed by the existing FITEQ Executive Board.
Portugal’s Rui Jorge Marques Leitão was elected after being proposed by TEQBALL athletes, whilst National Federations’ nominee Jawad El Hajri (France) was also elected.
Elsewhere at the General Assembly, reports were delivered by FITEQ President Gábor Borsányi, Sport Director Matthew Curtain, Head of CSR and Diplomatic Relations Gergely Murányi, and Head of Digital and Marketing Services Artur Papizsanszkij. There was also a finance report and a Q&A session for the National Federations.
FITEQ President Gábor Borsányi addressed the General Assembly, saying, “As of today, we have 128 National Federations established across all five continents, which is a significant increase from the end of 2020. We also have more than 3,000 clubs in 150 countries, ensuring local communities all over the world can enjoy and play the world’s fastest growing sport! So… on behalf of the FITEQ Executive Board, I want to say a huge thank you and congratulations to our partners around the world. Your passion, your hard work, and your positive spirit is what inspires us to dream bigger and reach higher every day.
“It has been another year of important milestones – all of which are listed in the annual report. However, it was the official launch of para TEQBALL and our inclusion to the 2023 European Games as a medal sport which really stood out for me. By these successes it has helped us reach new audiences and inspire new athletes and fans to join the global TEQBALL and para TEQBALL family. And we do this of course through and with you – our National Federations!”
The General Assembly was streamed live on FITEQ’s YouTube channel while the 2021 Annual Report can be accessed here.
