The draw has been announced for the much-anticipated European Teqball Tour 2022 opener in Lisbon, which gets underway tomorrow (25 February). The draw followed yesterday’s press conference, where FITEQ General Secretary and organisers in Portugal previewed what is set to be a thrilling three days of men’s doubles and mixed doubles action.

The European Teqball Tour event will feature 118 athletes from 20 countries. There are 20 athletes from host country Portugal set to compete, who will be looking to entertain local supporters with upsets over leading teqball countries such as Hungary, France, Brazil and Romania.

The group stage of the men’s doubles competition will kick things off on Friday, with 12 groups of three teams competing for a place in the round of 32. Hungary’s Csaba Banyik and Adam Blazsovics, the top two ranked men’s doubles players in the world, will enter the tournament as favourites. However, a star-studded draw including Serbia’s 2021 world champions Bogdan Marojevic and Nikola Mitro, will make for a highly competitive event.

Portugal’s leading medal hopes, Antonio Henriques and Joao Carlos Dos Santons Pinheiro, who represented Portugal in the 2021 Teqball World Championships, face teams from Hungary and Denmark in tomorrow’s group stage.

The mixed doubles group stage action begins on Saturday 26 February, with reigning world champions Csaba Banyik and Zsanett Janicsek the team to beat. They start their campaign against teams from Ukraine and Romania. However, overcoming world-class teams from Brazil, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, and France in the knockout stage will not be a simple task for the current World Number 1 pairing.

Following the group stage and early knockout rounds on 25 and 26 February, finals day for both event categories will take place on Sunday 27 February. The full draw for the event can be found here.
