University of Ghana students embrace teqball
The University of Ghana recently received teqball equipment from HE David Bekesi, the Deputy Ambassador for the Hungarian Embassy in Ghana, on behalf of FITEQ at a ceremony on the university campus with senior figures from the Teqball Federation of Ghana (TFG) in attendance.
HE Mr Bekesi explained the origins, accessibility, and rules of the sport to those in attendance, before presenting two tables to the University and cementing the beginning of an exciting relationship with the institution.
The Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, said:
“I am happy the University of Ghana has taken the lead by introducing teqball to its students, and I sure it will soon become one of the most popular sports among young Ghanaians. We have begun discussions to incorporate teqball into our activities at UG and we will also discuss wider adoption with the Ghana Universities Sports Association.”
FITEQ would like to thank the Teqball Federation of Ghana, the University staff and students, and the Hungarian Embassy for their support in bringing teqball to the next generation of Ghanaians.
Teqball continues to grow throughout Africa, with July having seen Algeria host a demonstration event during the Mediterranean Games, and Eswatini host a Challenger Cup. The Cote D’Ivoire Challenger Cup is up next on August 7.
