Teqball is back on the world stage after the successful European Games & African Beach Games
Los Angeles will host the world’s best teqers again, as the Californian city getting its fifth tournament in 2023. This time, 85 players from 17 countries face each other in three different categories (women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles) in the newest edition of the Teqball Tour on 14-16 July.
The field consists of the biggest stars of the sport, and it starts with the women’s doubles. Zsanett Janicsek is fresh off of a gold medal from the European Games, which means she is one of the newly crowned European champions. However, she will miss her usual partner Lea Vasas, and will team up with 23-year-old Spanish Anna Vila I Gomez. The singles world champion, Carolyn Greco is also going to compete without her regular teammate, Margaret Osmundson, but Kimberly Baker is also a top 20-ranked player.
Gabriella Kota has nice memories of LA since she won the latest event at the Santa Monica Pier alongside Brazilian Rafaella Fontes. This weekend, she will participate with Krisztina Acs, who is still looking for her first tournament win in this category in 2023.
Kota and Fontes came up victorious in dramatic fashion a month ago against Vania Moraes da Cruz and Ester Viana Mendes, but the Brazilian twosome is back and hungrier than ever. And don’t forget about another Brazilian, Marina Leal, who will have a strong player by her side Fiorella Pellegrini from Argentina.
The men’s doubles also promises a high level of play and great excitement. Romanian Apor Gyorgydeak dominated the singles competition at the EG and finished fourth in doubles with Szabolcs Ilyes – they will definitely be in contention for a medal in Los Angeles. Csaba Banyik and Balazs Katz claimed the gold in Krakow and will try to carry that momentum to California, but fellow Hungarians, the four-time world champion Adam Blazsovics and Martin Csereklye really want to prove that they also belong to the elite after failing to qualify for the sport’s first European Championship.
Brazilians of Leonardo Lindoso de Almeida and Leonardo Santana are the reigning champions of Los Angeles and will do their best to defend their title, but don’t sleep on their countrymen, Bruno Milhomens&Gustavo Oliveira and Joao Barreto&Pedro Henrique Lube Valladao.
The host country will be represented by many teams and they will share their resources, as Frankie Diaz will be partnered with Julian Light, Luka Pilic will play with Griffin Freeman, and Dennis Correia’s partner will be Andres Berriel from Uruguay.
The mixed double of Vania Moraes da Cruz and Leonardo Lindoso de Almeida emerged victorious last time when the best of the best met in the City of Angels. Surely, they will have a hard time staying on top, because the challengers are eager to dethrone them. Gyorgydeak will team up with Ester Viana Mendes and they are definitely viewed as contenders, just like the Hungarian teams of Acs&Banyik, Janicsek&Blazsovics and Kota&Katz. From the USA, Greco takes part with Diaz, while Correia will give it a shot with Mia Valente.
The group stages will take place at the Jesse Owens Stadium (California State University), and the finals will be held at the beautiful Santa Monica Pier.
The whole event from Los Angeles will be broadcasted by ESPN and streamed on FITEQ’s YouTube channel.
