"We want to break records again" - Gabor Borsanyi, FITEQ President
Ten years ago, the concept of Teqball was born, and the journey since then has been nothing short of remarkable. The sport has evolved into the fastest developing sport globally, boasting official associations in more than 150 countries and a continuously growing player base. As we reflect on the first decade of Teqball, it's evident that while there have been challenges, the achievements and progress made are reasons for joy and pride. In the exclusive interview, Mr. Gabor Borsanyi, President of FITEQ and co-inventor of Teqball shares his thoughts.
Almost a year ago, FITEQ President, Mr. Gabor Borsanyi stated "Teqball is ready for the next challenge". A bit more than 365 days and almost twenty international events later which was FITEQ's busiest calendar ever, exactly a decade after Teqball the concept was born, a new journey arose for the Teqball family.
The governing body of Teqball announced 2024's milestone events as part of the Teqball World Series. The first tour, also FITEQ's 250th will be held in Madrid, Spain the finals on the historic square, Plaza de Espana. For the anniversary, Teqball returns home, where everything started. Budapest, Hungary in July host the best teqers of the globe. Last but not least, Qingdao, China awaits the athletes still in July.
Mr. Gabor Borsanyi explained the remarkable journey of Teqball over the past ten years. From its inception to becoming the fastest-growing sport globally.
"We have a wonderful and exciting ten years behind us. Many times this all seems like a dream to us. Of course, there were challenges, but Teqball's official status as the fastest-developing sport globally brings immense joy and pride. We are making good progress, but we know there is still plenty of work to be done, especially in finding new teqers, increasing the numbers of female players, and expanding events globally. One of our main goals is to have international tours on every continent because our mantra is: hard work always pays off."
It is natural to experience ups and downs and constantly shape the sport, especially as new game styles arrive. The uniqueness of Teqball also attracts partners.
"The feedback received worldwide has been predominantly positive, reflecting Teqball's growing popularity and potential. The realization that Teqball is a complex game requiring special techniques has been an important learning point. Negative feedback and criticism are seen as opportunities for growth and refinement. The increasing number of partnership offers is seen as a validation of being on the right track, with plans to maximize these opportunities."
The first decade is in the books, however, the upcoming period may be even tougher for the Teqball family. The president highlights that he is very excited about FITEQ's strategy for the next decade revolving around global development, and the establishment of national associations. "We will focus on the next generation, youth management because we believe, together we can write history."
On four continents, almost twenty events were organized in 2023 including Teqball's first European championships in Krakow as the European Games or Teqball's first world championships outside of Europe, the World Teqball Championships 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
"The FITEQ calendar for 2023 received numerous positive comments from national federations and players. The momentum culminated in the World Teqball Championships 2023 with record-breaking numbers of participants, journalists, and social media engagement. The presence of Ronaldinho, as the ambassador of Teqball added to the event's prestige, making it a memorable milestone. It was incredible to see how everyone in the world showed interest in important matches, results, and players So, there is no question that we want to break records again next year"
Impressive options lie ahead for FITEQ, promising innovation and growth. The upcoming period holds immense potential to shape a groundbreaking future for the Teqball family.
"As we enter 2024, we anticipate an exciting year filled with new challenges and opportunities. The focus remains on professional development, with a commitment not to slow down. The goal is to build on the success of the past decade, with a plethora of tasks and opportunities paving the way for the growing Teqball family. I do not want to spoil anything, but our future can be greatly influenced by these partnerships." finished Mr. Gabor Borsanyi, President of FITEQ.
