Adriatic Teqball League 2024 kicked off in Ohrid
The Adriatic Teqball League made a grand debut in Ohrid on Saturday, June 8, with an exciting tournament that showcased the growing popularity of Teqball. The event featured fierce competition in both the Men’s Doubles and Men’s Singles categories, drawing top talent from the region and beyond.
The tournament brought together 20 teams in the Men’s Doubles category and 12 players in the Men’s Singles category, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. The group stage matches were held at the Sports Center ’Biljanini izvori’, setting the stage for some thrilling encounters. As the tournament progressed, the excitement moved to the city’s picturesque promenade, Gradski kej Makedonija, for the knockout phase.
In the Men’s Doubles category, team Liman, consisting of Nikola Mitro and Bogdan Marojević, emerged victorious. The duo, who are three-time world champions, demonstrated their exceptional skills and teamwork to clinch the title. Their dominance in the sport was further highlighted as Mitro also secured first place by beating Marojevic in the final in the Men’s Singles category, showcasing his versatility and mastery in Teqball.
The tournament was officially opened by Mr. Kiril Pecakov, the mayor of the Municipality of Ohrid. In a special ceremony, Mr. Pecakov received a TEQ table donation, symbolizing the community’s commitment to fostering the growth of Teqball in the region.
The event also attracted the best players from across the Adriatic region, with a notable wild card entry from Greece, adding an international flavour to the competition.
In addition to the main event, the organizers conducted a seminar for aspiring Teqball referees. This initiative was aimed at educating and training local enthusiasts in the nuances of officiating the sport. The seminar was well-attended by locals who are keen to contribute to the development of Teqball in their community.
The successful kickoff of the Adriatic Teqball League in Ohrid marks a significant milestone for the sport in the region. As teqball continues to gain traction, the Adriatic Teqball League is set to become a cornerstone of the sport’s development in the region. The next Adriatic Teqball League tournament will be held on July 20, in Bar, Montenegro.
