Official statement by FITEQ on suspension of Gabriella Kota
Sportsmanlike behaviour is crucial in FITEQ competitions, as required by the FITEQ Statutes and Official Rules of Teqball. Any extreme offence or ongoing unsporting conduct, as judged by the referee, may lead to disqualification. This decision is made by the Chief Referee, and a disqualified player forfeits any titles, medals, prize money, or ranking points and is banned from the remainder of the tournament.
During the mixed doubles semi-final of the Teqball World Series Budapest on 03 October 2024, offensive behaviour from Gabriella Kota was reported by referees to the Competition Manager and Chief Referee. In the second set, Kota received both a yellow and red card for unsporting behaviour and later directed inappropriate language toward the referees.
After the above-mentioned match, the player posted to one of the social media channels inappropriate, offensive content in which she did not respect the values of FITEQ and its family members.
As a result, FITEQ disqualifies Gabriella Kota from the Teqball World Series Budapest event (both mixed and women's doubles), and additional suspension from future FITEQ competitions may be applied by the Ethics Committee of the sport's governing body.
According to the decision Kota and her partner, Krisztina Acs will not compete in women's doubles. Kota will not receive any FITEQ World Ranking points after the bronze medal nor the prize money. However, her compatriot, Balazs Katz stays eligible for both.
FITEQ will always strive for fair circumstances and demands sportsmanlike behaviour from all of its members.
