CTL - Szombathely hosts the first Challenger Teqball League event where the sport was born

59 players from three continents representing thirteen countries will face each other in three categories.

After the Challenger Teqball League - Santarém Cup and Challenger Teqball League - Málaga Marca Cup, FITEQ's new tournament leaves the Iberian peninsula and visits the country where Teqball was born a decade ago.

The International Federation of Teqball and its partners started to work on the project to create a platform for grassroots development and to gain experience both by the players and the national federations during the five events. At each competition, the minimum price money is 3000€ and the participants will compete in three different categories between October 25 to 27.

In men's singles, four of the top 5 at FITEQ World Ranking will be present among the 32 players. Current leader and King of 2022, Apor Gyorgydeak is undefeated in this category this season so far, but the record champion Adam Blazsovics (HUN), world bronze medallist Hugo Rabeux (FRA) and Madrid's runner-up, who lost against the Romanian at the debuting World Series event, Martin Csereklye (HUN) are all very eager to break the MS's European champion series. The 'Hammer' returns to this category too as Csaba Banyik (HUN) is among the competitors as well as Nikola Mitro (SRB). The youngest athlete of the Challenger Teqball League - Szombathely Cup will be the German Elias Petzold who just turned 14 and is now eligible to compete in international Teqball bouts according to the sports governing body's rules.

World champion and world silver medallist Adam Bako (HUN) will compete in MD and XD.

The mixed doubles' field is the smallest with 8 pairs but very unusual twosomes joined up. World champion bronze medallist Krisztina Acs partnered with her fellow Hungarian, Balazs Katz while Petra Pechy who collected one gold and one bronze in Málaga will play together with Bako. Mitro and Zsofia Dezsenyi (HUN) know each other well as they fought together multiple times.

The biggest field regarding the number of athletes is found in men's doubles where 44 athletes will face each other from Nepal to Ghana. Two doubles stand out, world champion Banyik/Katz and their rival Gyorgydeak/Blazsovics. These two had an overheated final two weeks ago in Málaga where the former duo triumphed.  Representing the younger generation with international experience Boldizsar Levik/Benjamin Patrik Toth (HUN), Alexander Hamm (AUT)/David Kontra (HUN), and Daniel Botond Varga/Mate Hercegfi are both competing. It will be interesting to see the pairs of Bako/Zaid Eidan (KUW), Arnold Szilagyi (ROU)/Rabeux, and Gergo Dombai/Soma Cseri (HUN) are both awaited in the top 4.

"The Challenger Teqball League debuted in Santarém perfectly and continued its way up in Málaga. The players loved the events and many new athletes joined the Teqball family. It is a strategic initiative by FITEQ to provide Tier IV and V tournaments, specifically designed for grassroots players and national federations to gain experience in hosting events," said Bela Muller, Head of Communications at FITEQ. "I am sure that Szombathely will be yet another great example of the power of our sport."

The first day of the Challenger Teqball League - Szombathely Cup starts with the qualifiers of MS until the Quarterfinals while on day 2, both doubles categories will end up having the best four pairs. On Sunday the semi-finals start at 11 AM, and the finals at 1:30 PM. All the finals can be watched on TeqTV.
