CTL - The field is packed with world champions in Szekelyudvarhely

The 4th event of Challenger Teqball League shows that the interest among the best ones is on the top.

Challenger Teqball League - Szekelyudvarhely GOBEK Cup promises high-class bouts as multiple world and European champions will face each other in the home of Gyorgydeak, Ilyes and Barabasi.

The International Federation of Teqball and its partners started to work on the project to create a platform for grassroots development and to gain experience both by the players and the national federations during the five events of the Challenger Teqball League. At each competition, the minimum price money is 3000€ and the participants will compete in three men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles between November 8 to 10.

48 players from 8 countries play in Odorheiu Secuiesc at the penultimate event of the Challenger Teqball League. After Portugal, Spain and Hungary, Romania will be also part of the list of organizers before the tournament returns to Spain for the last tour of CTL.

In men's singles, 32 athletes will try to get the title. Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU) as FITEQ World Ranking #1 will have the home crowd with him as he is from Odorheiu Secuiesc and is considered a local hero. He stayed unbeaten in Szombathely, at the previous CTL rendez-vous. In the final, he beat Adam Blazsovics (HUN) who will once again challenge the field to get the record champion's first triumph at FITEQ events since January 2023. Marek Pokwap, the Polish prodigy and Csaba Banyik (HUN) are among the competitors who can prevent Gyorgydeak from the home win however, Milan Csabi's bronze medal in Szombathely means that the Hungarian cannot be left out from the odds. Thirteen local athletes will represent the best of Teqballers with the lead of the four-time world champion medallist Szabolcs Ilyes.


Apor Gyorgydeak is unstoppable in 2024.

With the biggest field, men's doubles are packed. 20 duos, 40 athletes will face each other. The favourites are the world champion title holders, Csaba Banyik/Balazs Katz (HUN). Blazsovics and Gyorgydeak beat them in Szombathely, yet the record champion teamed up with even more world title holders than the Romanian. Nikola Mitro is a three-time world champion, they sat on the top of the world combine seven times. Pokwap joined with  Ilyes once again while the Hungarian youngsters Boldizsar Levik/Benjamin Patrik Toth are also among the ones who may reach Sunday.

Gyorgydeak returns to the court in mixed doubles to win back-to-back in two categories after his double success in Szombathely. His partner is the world bronze medallist and European champion in WS, Kinga Barabasi (ROU). The couple won the last Teqball World Series in Budapest and in Malaga too. One of their main competitors may be Viorica Tonu who teamed up with the doubles specialist Mitro. Tonu wrote history in the Hungarian capital by taking the first gold for Moldova. World bronze medallist from 2019 Maja Umicevic (SRB) will compete along with Katz and another world bronze medallist Miklos Tunde who stood on the podium in Gliwice, 2021 will also enjoy the home crowd. Her partner is- another Romanian Teqball athletes, Mate Matyas who is yet to debut in mixed doubles.

"The Challenger Teqball League debuted in Santarém perfectly and continued its way up in Málaga. The players loved the events and many new athletes joined the Teqball family. It is a strategic initiative by FITEQ to provide Tier IV., V. and VI. tournaments, specifically designed for grassroots players and national federations to gain experience in hosting events just like in Szombathely," said Bela Muller, Head of Communications at FITEQ. He added, that the organizers of the upcoming tour promise new highs for CTL to put the bar so high that for 2025 they will be able to host a Tier II. or III. event.

The first day of the Challenger Teqball League - Szekelyudvarhely GOBEK Cup starts with the qualifiers of XD and finishing with the semifinals while D1 continues with the matchups of MD until the names of the finalists are revealed. Saturday is for men's singles and on Sunday the finals start at 6 PM. During the whole competition, Table 1 will be streamed, while every match from the knockout stage in MS and MD will be also shown on TeqTV.
