Building on its successful launch in 2024, the Challenger Teqball League will double its events from five to eleven in 2025. Each event offers players a platform to accumulate ranking points and showcases Teqball to diverse audiences worldwide.
Teqball's governing body introduced its newest league the Challenger Teqball League last season a platform for grassroots development and to gain experience both by the players and the national federations. The introductory season of 2024 did not only include thrilling matches but also an opportunity to explore some of the most enchanting cities across Europe. Altogether 175 players from 4 continents representing 28 countries competed at the five events: Santarém (POR), Malaga (ESP), Szombathely (HUN), Odorheiu Secuiesc (ROU) and Badalona (ESP).
The new season offers 11 events and exciting bouts in astonishing sites. Just like in 2024, the prize money of each tournament will be at least 3000€, and the finals will be streamed on TEQ TV. Kicking off the league, Pécs (HUN) will host the first Challenger Teqball League of 2025 between February 14 and 16. Funchal (POR), the capital of Madeira, is a tropical paradise known for its lush landscapes, breathtaking ocean views, and vibrant local culture. Although it is still far from now, everything seems to be perfect for creating Teqball's next hub where Cristiano Ronaldo was born. Between July 18 to 20, the focus will be on the island.
The Challenger Teqball League visits Santarém, Portugal where the first competition of 2024 was held with amazing feedback. Known as the capital of Gothic architecture in Portugal, Santarém is a treasure trove of history and culture. Its historic churches and scenic riverside views make it a hidden gem for travellers. The key to success is once again Rui Marques Leitao, FITEQ's re-selected Executive Board member, representing players as he is the main organizer in his hometown, where Teqball is very beloved and aims to reach new heights at the event from 22 to 24 of August.
"The Challenger Teqball League has been an excellent opportunity for athletes to gain rhythm and competition experience, especially those at the intermediate level. This event has also led to the emergence of new athletes in the international Teqball community. Furthermore, it has allowed for the promotion and development of Teqball at the local level, reinforcing the spirit of community and family." emphasizes CTL's importance Leitao.
In 2024, Odorheiu Secuiesc (ROU), the home of the two-time world champion, and current title holder, Apor Gyorgydeak showed that the city is truly one of the capitals of Teqball with jam-packed grandstands during the competition. "The numbers of Challenger Teqball League's first season show that the dynamic new tournament nurtures grassroots talents while having the power to attain almost half a billion aggregate readership in the European market. With eleven events in 2025, the league performs better than expected and creates the possibility for national federations to evolve and attract more players." highlights Muller.
The Challenger Teqball League tournaments will soon be uploaded to FITEQ's calendar, and the events of the Teqball World Series will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
