A new era of FITEQ World Ranking policy starts with 2025
FITEQ implements a transformative update to its World Ranking system, with the new policy set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
Designed to enhance clarity, fairness, and inclusivity, the new FITEQ World Ranking policy outlines the framework for ranking players and pairs across five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Central to the policy is a performance-based structure that determines rankings over a rolling 24-month period. Athletes can only qualify if they maintain valid FITEQ registration and approved player status. The rankings, updated monthly and published on the FITEQ website and app, are intended to reflect the achievements of players in FITEQ-sanctioned tournaments worldwide.
Under the 2025 policy, players will earn ranking points by participating in events such as the World Teqball Championships, continental championships, the Teqball World Series, Teqball Tour, Challenger Teqball League and other FITEQ-approved competitions. Each tournament carries a specific weight, with points awarded based on final placements and knockout-stage performances. Bonus points add an additional layer of incentive, rewarding players for winning sets and achieving high scores in matches.
The policy also establishes that ranking points remain valid for 24 months. For players or pairs competing in more than 20 tournaments within this timeframe, only the top 20 performances will contribute to their overall ranking. This ensures that consistent, high-level play is rewarded while preventing point inflation from excessive participation.
FITEQ has implemented clear rules to handle ties in the rankings. Players with fewer tournaments will be ranked higher in the event of identical points. If the number of tournaments is also equal, the registration date will serve as the tiebreaker. The policy also emphasizes sportsmanship by penalizing misconduct—players disqualified for inappropriate behaviour will lose any points earned during the affected event.
Recognizing the challenges athletes face, the new ranking system incorporates Entry Protection for players sidelined by injury or pregnancy. This provision allows eligible players to retain a protected ranking for up to four tournaments or a period of 12 months after recovery. To qualify, players must provide medical documentation and apply within six months of their last competition.
This protection also covers pregnancy-related absences for women athletes, marking a significant step toward greater inclusivity in Teqball.
FITEQ’s 2025 World Ranking Policy represents a significant leap forward for the sport of Teqball. By combining a transparent point system with measures to protect player welfare, the federation is setting a high standard for competitive integrity and inclusivity. Athletes and fans alike can look forward to a more dynamic and equitable global teqball landscape in the coming years.
