FITEQ introduces new rule changes in Teqball for 2025

New rules are implemented that influence the serving and mixed doubles.

FITEQ, the governing body of Teqball, has announced significant rule changes effective February 5, 2025. These changes, approved by the Executive Board and based on extensive testing and statistical analysis, aim to enhance gameplay, increase fairness, and ensure more engaging rallies.

Teqball, being a relatively young sport, is continuously evolving to achieve the best version of the game. The last major rule update took place in 2023, and since then, FITEQ has been closely monitoring the sport's development. One of the most notable updates is a modification to the second service rule that affects every player in every category.

New Rule (10.1.6): The second service must be executed with one touch using any part of the body except for the hands, arms, and feet.
Reasoning: FITEQ conducted statistical analyses and practical tests, which revealed that this change significantly reduces the number of double faults and leads to longer, more enjoyable rallies. By preventing the use of the foot for second serves, the sport aims to maintain a more balanced level of play while promoting skilful and strategic serving techniques.

A change has also been introduced in mixed doubles matches to stream fairness.

New Rule (4.5.3.3): The receiving player is now automatically determined based on the server's gender. Male players are only allowed to serve male opponents, and female players must serve exclusively female opponents.
Reasoning: This update ensures a more balanced competition structure in mixed doubles, creating a fairer and more inclusive playing environment.

These latest changes were tested at the Challenger Teqball League - Szombathely Cup in October 2024, where athlete feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The modifications were found to enhance the flow of the game and provide a better experience for both players and spectators.

The first official application of these rules will take place at the Challenger Teqball League - Pecs PSN in early 2025. FITEQ remains committed to refining the sport and is open to further feedback and suggestions to perfect the rules in the future.
