Pokwap dominated in Granda
Next to Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, Granda hosted the latest Teqball tournament, the Tier V Teqball Open - Granda.
33 players registered for three categories representing 7 countries, including Senegal and Tunisia. In the men's singles, Marek Pokwap was the heavy favourite and although dropping one set in the group stage against Martin Vasques (POR), he let only 6 points on average to his opponents in the knockout stage and finished on top. Mame Cheick Fam beat Vasques on the road to the final in two tight sets, and while the Senegalese brought home the silver medal, the Portuguese prodigy finished third along with Szaboly Ilyes (ROU).
GOBEK's duo, Ilyes/Pokwap, was unstoppable, and only Martim Vasques/Goncalo Reis (POR) could come close. They faced the Lusitanians twice and triumphed on both occasions. Ivan Alvarez Lopez/Manuel Sanchez Poncela (ESP) and Pedro Roldao/Miguel Alexandre Marques Palhota Bica (POR) finished on the lowest step of the podium.
Originally, women's doubles were also part of the event; however, due to the large number of registered athletes, FITEQ cannot provide World Ranking points for this category's participants.
In mixed doubles, Carla Couto (POR) and Arpad Sipos (HUN) fought fiercely and won the trophy. Goncalo Reis and Ana Marques (POR) finished as runners-up. Oscar Fernandez, Tania Rodriguez Canal (ESP), Ana Pereira, and Miguel Alexandre Marques Palhota Bica (POR) finished third.
The next competition, the Challenger Teqball League—Presov, will be held in Slovakia between March 21 and 23.
