Presov will be the epicentre of Teqball this weekend
Presov will be host two Teqball events in the upcoming weekend after the introduction of FITEQ's current competition structure.
The Challenger Teqball League - last year's new FITEQ tournament - returns in 2025 with eleven events. After the successful first CTL event in Pecs, the tournament moves to Slovakia as Presov hosts the next event between 21 and 23 of March. With 60 athletes representing 13 countries in three categories: men's and women's, and mixed doubles for a 3000€ prize pool and a Tier VI. event, Teqball Cup - Presov will also be held for lower-ranked athletes (18) to compete at the same weekend with two categories: women's singles and men's doubles to gain World Ranking points and experience. This will also be the second event where athletes play under the new rules.
In Pecs, both in men's and mixed doubles, 16-16 twosomes will step to the table. Starting with the firstly mentioned category, a three-time world champion Serbian will return as Bogdan Marojevic competes in Slovakia after a month's hiatus and missing the World Teqball Championships 2024. As usual, his partner will be Nikola Mitro with whom together collected all of their main titles. Yet, the highest-ranked double is not them, but the main opponent from Hungary, the world champions of this category back in 2023, Csaba Banyik/Balazs Katz (HUN). A new partnership formed for the last competition in 2024 when the two-time singles world champion, Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU) teamed up with his teammate, the Polish prodigy, Marek Pokwap and won in MD in Paris. However, the Challenger Teqball League - Presov is going to be their real test with higher-ranked opponents. The record champion, Adam Blazsovics (HUN) plays together with his compatriot Toth Benjamin Patrik as the fourth pair to be considered as contenders. However, multiple worlds and European bronze medallist, Hugo Rabeux (FRA) and the Portuguese phenomenon, Martim Vasques as well as Gergo Dombai/Soma Cseri (HUN) may surprise the favourites. Another double to follow is the youngsters, Jens Toftegaard from Denmark and Stefan Orlowski (POL). Both of them belong to the new generation as the first is 16 while the latter is 15 years old and already won in Pécs in both categories at Teqball's season opener.
The winners of this season's first round of the Challenger Teqball League in mixed doubles in Pecs will compete to continue their unbeaten run. Apor Gyorgydeak/Kinga Barabasi (ROU) are the highest-ranked duo. Behind them, world bronze and European silver medallist Amelia Julian joined Balazs Katz, while Blazsovics and his main partner in this category, Petra Pechy (HUN) are also among the competitors. Banyik and Maria Chedid are an interesting pair to follow while the very first CTL winner in XD, Pokwap and Nora Vicsek (HUN) travel to Presov to repeat their success. Besides the number-ones, Marojevic and Daytona Hansen (GER), Viorica Tonu (MDA)/ Szaboly Ilyes (ROU) and Rabeux with Timea Kapusi (HUN) are newly formed teams to try their wings.
The smallest field is in women's doubles with 8 twosomes. Vicsek/Pechy are the most decorated duo of them however, since Barabasi/Tonu beat the Hungarians in Budapest last year, they already know the recipe against the world silver medallists. The odds for these two's triumphs completed with Chedid/Julian are the lowest while it is impossible to say who will be the second bronze medallist as the competitors have equal chances according to their FITEQ World Ranking places and former victories. The battles of WS start on Friday until the finalists are revealed.
With 18 players, the Tier VI., Teqball Cup Presov kicks off on Saturday with women's singles and men's doubles simultaneously. Austrian Nina Steinbauer is the highest-ranked athlete (52) among the competitors and has every chance to better his all-time record in this category when she finished 13th in Pecs while in men's doubles, it seems impossible to name the finalists in advance.
Both competition's finals will be streamed on TEQ TV. The program starts with Teqball Cup Presov's golden game of women's singles from 10:00 AM (CET), then followed by men's doubles. CTL's last matchups are from 11:00 AM in the order of WD, MD & XD.
