The Teqball Federation of Zambia (TFZ) was officially launched at Barca Academy in Lusaka on 16 January 2020. Among those present at the launch event was National Olympic Committee of Zambia President Alfred Foloko, former Zambia President His Excellence Rupiah Bwezani Banda, Minister of Sport, Youth and Child Development Emmanuel Mulenga and TFZ President Dickson Jere. Foloko reiterated the Olympic Movement’s commitment to bringing on-board mechanisms that will help youths in the country refrain from harmful vices in their lives. He said that having a new sport will provide more variety to choose from. Mulenga, meanwhile, stated that teqball intends to gain a new foothold in Zambia and strengthen the nation’s budding sports industry. He thanked the experts that committed two days towards training coaches and assured that the trainees gained transferable knowledge and skills. Mulenga further encouraged the coaches to continue promoting teqball. As for Banda, he described Teqball as a very exciting game after watching a demonstration, which saw Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations-winning captain Christopher Katongo and former team-mate Emmanuel Mayuka join sport animators Bence Forgacs and Marton Keresztury in playing the sport.
